Will & Tate City Stay – Den Haag
Hey y’all ✨
Quick Intro
I started my traveling journey in Den Haag almost a year ago, and this is everything that happened during my time volunteering—and whether I’d recommend it as an experience.
I volunteered at a small, cute hostel in Den Haag through Worldpackers for four months while slow traveling the Netherlands on a tight budget. I chose the Netherlands for a few key reasons: it was my first backpacking trip, I was nervous about starting alone, and I wanted to start in an EU country in case something happened (which it did… hehehe). Being gay is widely accepted here, it’s an English-speaking country, and as a solo woman queer traveler, it felt both safe and inclusive.

Spending Christmas with volunteers and Christmas dinner
👉 If you’re thinking about volunteering abroad, I use Worldpackers and only share places I’d actually stay again.
What the Work Was Like
- Hours per week: 25 hours
- Type of work: Housekeeping
- Days off: 2 per week
- Energy level required: Easy
Accommodation & Food
This part I truly loved. Accommodation was included, and breakfast food was provided.
- Room: Shared with only volunteers. I stayed in both dorms: one with 8 beds, one with 6.
- Kitchen access: Yes!
- Food: Breakfast staples were provided, such as eggs, cheese, butter, bread, oatmeal, bacon, cereal, apples, bananas, milk, juice, etc. Basically, everything you need to start your day! 😋
- Location: Central, right next to the tram, and a 15–20-minute walk from central station.
Safety & Vibe
I felt very safe during my time here. The hostel is social, inclusive, and queer-friendly. It’s not a hotspot for lesbian nightlife, but it’s welcoming to all.
Personal Thoughts
Volunteering at Will & Tate was a fantastic experience. Some highlights:
- When the hostel closed for Christmas, volunteers were allowed to stay—and even in private rooms until reopening.
- Free coffee during shifts ☕
- After your shifts, you can find paid work easily nearby (I worked as a dishwasher without any issues).
- The hospital is nearby (trust me, I had to visit twice—once for a fall down the stairs and another for anaphylactic shock 😅).
- Laundry facilities are available on days off.
I would 100% recommend applying to this hostel, especially if you enjoy meeting other volunteers and a social atmosphere.
Who This Place Is Good For / Not Good For
- Good for: Social travelers, solo women, queer-friendly travelers, anyone looking to meet other volunteers.
- Not ideal for: People who don’t want to share a dorm with other volunteers or too many 😅.
Would I Do It Again?
Absolutely! It was a great experience.
